Manchester City latest: Another Hart replacement linked while rival questions change

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has admitted he is yet to decide who will step between the sticks for their next league match against Norwich City.

This is after Costel Pantilimon performed well in goal during the Blues’ League Cup victory over Newcastle United yesterday.

Speaking about who will be his goalkeeper of choice, Pellegrini said, “Whichever ‘keeper plays will have my support.”

And when pressed the Chilean said, “I have just told you I will think about that on Thursday.”

There is no doubt, Joe Hart’s position as City’s first-choice is under more scrutiny than ever. But fellow ‘keeper Brad Friedel believes dropping him may not be the best answer.

In an interview with Talk Sport, the Spurs player said, “Being dropped can have a positive effect, but that depends how you take being dropped.

You just never know with these things. That’s why it’s not as easy as (saying): ‘Right, we’re going to drop Joe Hart’ because you don’t want to lose the best Joe Hart, because the best Joe Hart is England’s number one.”

The problem is, the best Joe Hart has been more a fleeting visitor than a permanent fixture in recent times.

The Metro goes one step further, claiming City are considering Celtic’s Fraser Forster as a long-term replacement for Hart and will scout him more in the coming weeks.

But given Forster’s emergence and reputation, the Blues may have to get in line...
