Arsenal face Gundogan battle, want Reid as ex-star criticises Emirates

All the morning news from The Emirates Stadium this Thursday.

Arsenal have a massive battle on their hands if their reported interest in Borussia Dortmund star Ilkay Gundogan is factual. The Gunners and Manchester United are said to be keen on bringing the German international to the Premier League.

However, while a departure from Dortmund is said to be possible, the club have new major rivals in the form of FC Barcelona.

Barca reportedly view him as the ultimate successor to Xavi’s throne in Catalunya. Gundogan is valued at around £30 million by the Bundesliga outfit.

Arsenal are said to be considering a January bid for West Ham United’s New Zealand defender Winston Reid. Reid has been in great form for The Hammers this season, and the Gunners are now lining up a £6 million bid for his services.

He only recently signed a new deal with the Hammers, so is contracted until 2016, so keep your eyes peeled on this one as it develops over time.

Nicklas Bendtner, ever the confident soul, refuses to let his head drop despite a much-maligned display in the League Cup on Monday night.

He was widely criticised for his ineffectual replacement of Olivier Giroud in the starting XI - but believes he still has a major role to play this season:

‘’At the moment I'm doing everything I can to help the team win trophies, as we all are. I've always had strong feelings towards the club and respected the club and that's something I will never lose."

Finally, and former Arsenal player Andrei Arshavin has slammed the atmosphere at the club while he was there. The £15 million star had this to say:

"The atmosphere was weird. It felt like the crowd was at the theatre - good seats, expensive tickets and they wanted to see a show, not to support the team. It was like there was no advantage in playing at home. Many of the players - the leaders that were left from the club's time at Highbury - often complained that the atmosphere in the stands was so bad."
