Manchester City take on Newcastle United away at St James’ Park this evening in the Capital One Cup Fourth Round kicking off at 7.45pm local time.
In team news, goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon replaces Joe Hart in goal who is rested. The line-ups are as follows:
Pantilimon, Richards, Boyata, Lescott, Kolarov, Rodwell, Garcia, Navas, Milner, Jovetic, Dzeko.
Subs: Hart, Zabaleta, Nasri, Negredo, Silva, Fernandinho, Demichelis.
Former goalkeeping coach Eric Steele believes Joe Hart will bounce back from his error against Chelsea last weekend that led to the Londoners’ 2-1 victory over City in the Premier League but Steele hack also asserted his belief that Hart needs the backing and support of the fans of both his club and country.
Meanwhile, City defender Micah Richards wants to finish his career at the Etihad despite suffering injuries and setbacks. The 25-year-old stated:
“It’s about keeping fit and getting some games in. I felt I played well in the three games. I’m not leaving City it’s my club and I love it here. Ten more years – that’s my aim."
In transfer news, The Express claims Vincent Kompany is a target of Monaco in January and reports that the big-spending French outfit could ‘make a move’ in the next transfer window.
Former City striker Mario Balotelli’s agent claims the Italian could move to Chelsea in January for a link-up with his former boss at Inter Milan Jose Mourinho.
In other news, CSKA Moscow have been punished by UEFA who have closed off part of their stadium following the Russian side’s fans chanting racist abuse at City’s Yaya Toure last week.
