Jan Vertonghen said that patience was the key to their 1-0 victory over Hull City on Sunday. It was Vertonghen’s cross that led to the award of a penalty which Roberto Soldado converted to take all three points at White Hart Lane.
Vertonghen told the club’s website: ‘It wasn’t our best performance, but it’s another clean sheet and three points.
‘Sometimes when teams play with numbers across the back, you have to wait and be patient.’
Spurs come up against Hull City again in the Capital One Cup this week and Vertonghen thinks the Tigers will present a similar challenge to the weekend.
‘Hull might play the same way as they will think it’s worked and we have to do the same, be patient, wait for our chances and hopefully we will be good enough on Wednesday.’
Capoue has been out of action since picking up an ankle injury against Arsenal at the start of September whilst Kaboul has been recovering from a knee injury meaning he hasn’t started a game since the Premier League opener against Crystal Palace.
However, the Mirror is reporting that Kaboul is out of tomorrow’s game along with left-back with Danny Rose.
Jermain Defoe has been linked with a move away from the club to MLS side Toronto and their boss Ryan Nelson has spoken of his desire to take him across the Atlantic.
Nelson told TSN Network in Canada: ‘To get a guy like Defoe for the MLS, I cannot think of many that are more suited. I think if you ask most Premier League teams, they would take Defoe.’
Pato had the chance to move to White Hart Lane in the summer.
He said: ‘I received offers, they called Corinthians, sent a fax, to sign me in the window, but I sat down with the staff, talked with my agent and I told them I wanted to stay.
