Chelsea have a selection problem like no other, as shown in their victory over Arsenal last night.
Chelsea made 10 changes to their weekend starting line-up for last night's cup tie with Arsenal and still won with relative ease.
In doing so Mourinho's men laid down a marker for the Premier League, demonstrating they have on last night's evidence, the strongest squad in the Premier League.
Such an embarrassment of riches however as we have seen already this season, have the tendencies to create headlines and problems for managers, as somebody has to be left out.
Juan Mata is one who has attracted a lot of these, and his second half goal can only have helped his case.
The Spaniard put in a superb display, completing 96 per cent of his passes during the 89 minutes he was on the pitch, leaving to a standing ovation from the visiting Chelsea supporters.
Former Chelsea assistant manager Ray Wilkins told SkySports:
"Jose has a massive problem in who to select. This guy (Mata) is a genius
"I don't understand why Jose was trying to get more out of him. This guy is special."
Mata has had to play second fiddle to Oscar for much of the season so far, but he is applying more and more pressure on Mourinho to make a space for him in the side.
Rumours surfaced after Mata was left out against Manchester City that he had instructed his agent to find him a January move.
Truthful or not, if he has not forced his way into the side by time the transfer window opens, a month long unwelcome transfer distraction awaits.
What should Jose do with Mata, and who should miss out?
