The 20-year-old slight in on the right hand side of defence for Derby and produced a solid 90 minutes of football, which has left Derby boss Steve McClaren and the club’s fans purring over their loan star.
“I thought Andre was immense for his first game - He slotted in with no fuss and he looks like he will be a very good player for us. He's a leader as well as a good player,” McClaren told the Derby website.
Derby fans took to the Derby County FC Forum powered by footymad.net to give their player ratings and opinions on the game, with several fans commenting on the performance of the Liverpool star.
It was the nature and composure on the ball, which seemed to impress Derby fans the most.
“Wisdom should be CB so composed looked a class above any defender we currently have,” said one Derby supporter.
Wisdom’s versatility is something that makes him very unlucky not to have stayed at Anfield ahead of the rest of the season.
He’s a natural replacement for Glen Johnson at right-back under Brendan Rodgers and he also provides plenty of cover across the middle of the defence, if several centre backs pick up injuries or suspensions.
“A very classy footballer who I think was the best player on the park,” said another fan.
The point of the loan deal as far as Brendan Rodgers and Steve McClaren will be concerned is for the youngster to play regularly football and return to Liverpool as a much better player.
There have been some suggestions that the loan deal is a sweetener on the part of Liverpool, giving them a better chance to go after talented Derby midfielder Will Hughes this January.
However, that’s a massive insult to Wisdom’s quality and ability as a footballer and it’s more likely there is no ulterior motive behind the deal.
“Pretty much faultless all game and very solid,” said another member on the board.
Concentration is something that Wisdom has to work on because he could be blamed for the goal Birmingham City scored but he’ll be full of confidence because he’s creating momentum for himself and Derby seem to realise they’ve got a very special defensive talent on their hands.
