Andre Wisdom made his Derby County debut on Saturday as they dropped two points in the closing stages of the game against Birmingham.
Wisdom, who signed on loan for the East Midlands side late last week ousted Tottenham prospect Adam Smith from the starting 11.
The popular Anfield defender was considered quite a coup for the Pride Park side and he looks to have set his mark in the Championship fairly quickly by picking up the official man of the match award given out by the club after the game.
The Derby County manager Steve McClaren expressed his delight at the right-backs performance after the game, saying:
‘’I thought Andre was immense for his first game. He slotted in with no fuss and looks like he will be a very good player for us.’’
The former England manager was also quick to praise the defender's leadership and persona in the game.
‘’He’s got a good pedigree and he wants to be a leader, which is a great attitude to have. Coming here is going to be a big test for him but he’s started well and we hope it continues.’’
The Liverpool player also made his feelings noted after the game commenting on the ‘’great experience’’ of moving to Derby, admitting that it has be a big transition coming from Liverpool.
Optimistic about the club's promotion chances the England under-21 captain said:
‘’I have come to Derby to gain experience, get matches under my belt and keep my fitness up. It is also about me helping Derby push for promotion, because I can see that the players here have got great quality and today’s performance did not quite highlight how well we have played.’’
The Derby County fans were buzzing about the arrival of the young Liverpool man and the performance Saturday has only egged them on further.
He looked dominant as he proved to be a cause of concern for Lee Clark and his side who got barely any change out of him and nullified many of their attacks.
He certainly looks like he could make a difference this season as Derby look to finally crack the top 6 positions in the division.
