Also, supporters trust on atmosphere whilst striker is still wanted in Turkey
Right-back Kyle Walker has signed a new long-term contract with Tottenham Hotspur which will keep him at White Hart Lane until 2019. Walker has made 112 appearances since signing for the club from Sheffield United back in 2009.
That’s something that may cheer the England full-back up after the Metro reported a tree landing in his driveway as a result of the storm that has hit the country.
Andre-Villas Boas thinks that a language barrier is preventing forward Erik Lamela from producing his best form straight away. The club paid £30m in the summer to prise the Argentinian away from Serie A side Roma.
The Spurs boss said: ‘We have been speaking a lot with him. I think getting acquainted to the Premier League is important but he doesn’t know the language. [Roberto] Soldado had some knowledge of the language before [he came] so it was a little bit easier for him.
‘With Erik it was a little bit more difficult but we have given him massive, massive help and his family arrived this week.
‘He knows he isn’t producing half of what he can produce but he understands the situation now is that he has to compete for his place.’
Out of favour striker Emmanuel Adebayor is still on the radar of Turkish club Besiktas. The vice-president of the club Ahmet Nur Cebi has told Besiktas TV that he is planning a second move for the striker. He said: ‘We were interested in Adebayor in August.
‘The club will target Adebayor again in January, but it’s difficult to sign such marketable players.’
The Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust responded to criticism from Andre Villas-Boas about the atmosphere by citing the ban of the Y-Word from White Hart Lane.
Secretary of the trust Katrina Law is quoted in the Daily Telegraph saying: ‘The atmosphere’s a bit dodgy because of all the uncertainty around the use of the Y-Word. A lot of our songs contain that, a lot of our passionate chanting would contain that.
‘We are very wary of using it after somebody was arrested against West Ham. We don’t really know what we can sing.’
