A report in La Gazzetta dello Sport today suggests that Manchester United are ready to swoop for Roma revelation Miralem Pjanic.
Manchester United are expected to strengthen in the winter window as they struggle in the Premier League and Pjanic could be the attacking midfielder David Moyes needs.
The 23-year-old struggled for game time last season but has broken into the first team this term and impressed during Roma's magnificent start to the campaign.
According to La Gazzetta, Manchester United are looking for fresh options to pursue instead of Wesley Sneijder and Pjanic has caught the eye.
The Italian paper believes that it will require £25m to persuade the Giallorossi to release the talented Bosnian playmaker whose contract expires at the end of June 2015.
Roma will be reluctant to let go of such a gifted player as their stellar start to the Serie A season has left them as serious Scudetto contenders, but they may be unable to prevent the move should their valuation be matched and the player backs the transfer.
While the transfer fee may seem high for United given Pjanic's inexperience at the highest level, he will be heading to next summer's World Cup with Bosnia and if he impresses in Brazil his value will rocket.
However, in recent weeks it has been reported that Roma are working on an extension to Pjanic's contract and that the ex-Lyon man wants to sign, so United may be forced to look elsewhere.
