Rodgers explains defender move while teenager is linked with Liverpool switch

A select round-up of morning news relating to Liverpool

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed why he sent Andre Wisdom on loan to Derby County last week.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Rodgers said, “I wanted to get Andre out earlier. The plan was to get him out in the summer, but I couldn’t because of the nature of the injuries we had. We had to keep him around.

Steve McLaren is a good manager who has worked at the top level and I’m sure Andre will benefit from his time there.”

Reds fans will be keeping an eager eye on the Rams’ match against Birmingham this afternoon, should Wisdom make his debut.

In other news, the Daily Star reports that Liverpool are stepping up their interest in Ghanaian defender Daniel Amartey.

The 18-year-old currently plays for Swedish club Djurgarden IF. But while his impressive performances are said to have caught many managers’ eyes, whether Liverpool need yet another defender remains to be seen.

Although as one for the future, Amartey may be worth keeping track of.
