Crystal Palace 0-2 Arsenal: Injuries and dismissals cannot prevent Gunners' victory

Selhurst Park

Arsenal defeated Crystal Palace 2-0 this afternoon.

Arsenal strengthened their lead at the top of the Premier League table with a 2-0 victory against Crystal Palace earlier today.

The Gunners suffered an injury blow after just seven minutes, when Mathieu Flamini was taken off with a suspected groin injury.  And following his departure the league leaders complete domination began to falter.

However, it was Flamini's replacement who secured the breakthrough when he was fouled in the box by Adlene Guedioura.  Mikel Arteta dispatched the subsequent penalty two minutes after the interval.

The Arsenal midfielder was later shown a red card for a professional foul on former Gunner Marouane Chamakh. But his dismissal did not change the ultimate course of the game, with Olivier Giroud doubling the visitors' advantage with three minutes to play.

Palace will be disappointed not to have drawn level with the man advantage, as Joel Ward struck the crossbar and Wojciech Szczesny pulled off a fine save to deny Mile Jedinak.

The result means Arsenal are five points clear at the top of the table, while Palace remain 19th with just three points from nine games.
