Former Everton striker a big miss for Huddersfield: West Yorkshire Derby Match Preview

Leeds United

Huddersfield host Leeds United in a highly anticipated West Yorkshire Derby.

Just 12 miles separating the John Smiths stadium and Elland road, both situated in the West Yorkshire district, this makes for a fierce battle between two neighbours. Huddersfield surprisingly hold the better record in these Derby games with 25 wins to Leeds 19, although that counts for little in the match tomorrow.

Huddersfield had a disappointing loss away to Leicester last weekend, which also resulted in a red card for key man James Vaughan.

The former League One champions had a number of good chances saved by in-form keeper Kasper Schmeichel who earned praise from his manager, Nigel Pearson at the end of the game. Leeds will be buoyed by their emphatic win against Birmingham and having brought Dexter Blackstock in from Forest earlier in the week, they are looking fairly strong for the game this weekend.

Both sides will be looking to getting the ball down and build up their attacks without leaving too much open at the back. Matt Smith could be in line to start after his impressive stint against Birmingham, where he used his incredible stature to his advantage and bag 2 goals. Therefore, centre defensive trio of Clarke, Gerrard and Lynch will have to cautious of the big mans impact.,

Key Battle

Jonathan Hogg vs Rodolph Austin – I expect this match to fall in line with typical local derbies. Both sitting central midfield players will be looking to win their personal battle and allow the players around them to work off them and their hard work. Both are good players in this division and I fancy whoever wins this personal war to be on the winning side.

Who do you see winning?
