Real Madrid will be looking to draw level on points with Barcelona in the El Classico derby this weekend.
Real Madrid haven’t been playing their best football but in typical Italian fashion, manager Carlo Ancelotti has got the side securing points which have kept the team in the title race.
The Nou Camp is always a difficult place for Real Madrid to go to considering the history between the team teams but Los Blancos don’t have a long injury list, which means Ancelotti can name a strong side.
Here’s the eleven he may go with.
GK – Diego Lopez
Lopez should continue in goal as Ancelotti seems to prefer him to Iker Casillas in domestic matches. He’s a very solid goalkeeper and is well suited to take the pressure Barcelona will throw his way.
RB – Alvaro Arbeloa
The former Liverpool man has a big job to contain Neymar down his side of the pitch. He’s a well organised and sensible right-back who doesn’t take too many risks and Real Madrid will be looking for safety from him.
CB – Sergio Ramos
Ramos should take his normal position on the right hand side of central defence. He’s experienced this fixture plenty of times in the past and he will be wary of the threat posed by Lionel Messi’s pace and movement.
CB – Pepe
Portuguese defender Pepe will look to be the more aggressive of the centre backs. However, he cannot be reckless and can’t fly out of the back four to intercept the ball if it will jeopardise the integrity of the defence.
Marcelo is going to be a vital component of the counter attack for Real Madrid. He’ll have to push forward when he can to provide support to Cristiano Ronaldo down that side of the pitch.
RM – Gareth Bale
Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed Bale will start this game, meaning Angel di Maria will have to wait for his 100th league appearance for the club. Bale will be very useful cutting inside onto his left foot.
DM – Sami Khedira
The German will have to be the player who tries to track the deep runs from Barcelona players. He has to try and pick things off before they develop into something dangerous and threatening.
CM – Luka Modric
The former Tottenham man will be Real Madrid’s Xavi in this game. Modric needs to try and control the tempo of the game in the middle so it suits Real Madrid more than Barcelona.
AM – Isco
It would be a major surprise if Isco doesn’t come back into the team for this game. He’s been one of the best players in La Liga this season when it comes to feeding the striker and breaking forward from midfield to support the attack.
LM – Cristiano Ronaldo
Ronaldo may start on the left but he won’t always stay there. Expect to see him moving into central positions, breaking forward on the counter attack but also dipping into central midfield to try and get on the ball.
ST – Karim Benzema
The Frenchman didn’t have a great game against Juventus in the Champions League but he should stay in attack. He needs a goal or two to boost his confidence and a big performance here would also ease some of the pressure he’s been getting from fans to perform.
Which side do you think will win this game?
