Genoa's Brazilian midfielder Matuzalem has been caught drink driving in the coastal town of Arenzano and faces disciplinary action from his club.
According to reports in Italy, the ex-Lazio man was pulled over by police after he was spotted driving erratically and tested four times over the alcohol limit.
Matuzalem, who was out with a friend and also his mum, had to call teammate Antonio Donnarumma to come and pick him up and take him home in the early hours of the morning.
He now faces having his driving licence revoked and a substantial fine as well as the possibility of disciplinary action from his club.
Genoa travel to Juventus on Sunday looking for an unlikely win to ease the pressure after a poor start to the season and the news of Matuzalem's run in with the law won't have helped preparations.
Grifoni coach Gian Piero Gasperini was reluctant to dwell on the issue when quizzed by journalists about the action that will be taken against Matuzalem.
"He trained normally today," Gasperini said. "I will talk to him and weigh things up but I'm sure we can sort the problem out in a proper way."
Genoa are without striker Emanuele Calaio for the trip to Turin and Mario Santana's involvement is in doubt.
The Rossoblu will be hoping to build on last weekend's win over Chievo which came courtesy of an Alberto Gilardino brace.
