Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lewis Holtby has revealed his shock ahead of entering Moldova.
Tottenham take on FC Sheriff of Moldova in the Europa League tonight, visiting the former Russian state of Moldova.
The country is one fans of English football recognise well, having been drawn with them in qualifying groups for major tournaments on several occasions, in fact they were the side David Beckham made his debut against.
The Germans, seemingly not so.
Tottenham midfielder Lewis Holtby has revealed his shock at entering the country ahead of the club's fixture, not knowing it even existed.
That's fair enough, because FC Sheriff are actually based in breakaway state Transnistria, but the German thought he was heading somewhere drastically different.
He told The Sun: "I was only told it was a country 20 minutes before we arrived at the border.
"I can tell my grandchildren that I played in a played in a part of Moldova which isn't Moldova.
"I had not heard of Sheriff before. I thought they were from Northern Ireland."
He must have thought it was a long flight across the Irish Sea.
