German newspapers Bild and Suddeutsche Zeitung have offered Arsenal and Liverpool some hope if they still harbour interest in signing 23-year-old midfielder Sebastian Rode.
The Eintracht Frankfurt star has been heavily linked with a switch to German giants Bayern Munich but Bild’s report touches on a story in Suddeutsche Zeitung which suggests Pep Gaudriola is no longer interested in the player.
“The exchange of Frankfurt's Sebastian Rode next summer to Bayern is no longer as secure as it appeared in the past few months – Rode doesn’t correspond to the image of the midfielder Guardiola has an eye on,” reads a translation of the story on Bild’s website.
The news is a bonus to both Arsenal and Liverpool because it means he is still available if Guardiola doesn’t see him as a player who feature in his plans for the current German and European champions.
Liverpool have the edge over Arsenal because the Gunners already have several top quality and world class central midfielders in their squad, which gives Arsene Wenger different options.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers said he would be looking to bring in reinforcements this winter and he could be tempted to put a bid in for the player, whose contract is set to expire next summer.
Liverpool would surely want to avoid a scramble for his signature as a free agent and they wouldn’t be required to pay a huge fee to buy out the half a year remaining on his deal when the January transfer window opens.
