The Mirror reported on Tuesday night that Chelsea had expressed a sensational interest in signing Atletico Madrid's Diego Costa.
Costa is in the form of his life at present, scoring 12 goals in 12 games in all competitions.
The 25-year-old is currently at the centre of an international tug-of-war between Brazil and Spain, which is expected to be resolved shortly.
Despite Costa signing a new contract in August, the Mirror claimed Atletico may be prepared to deal for £35 million.
The paper claim Chelsea are considering offering two players into a swap deal - Fernando Torres and Thibaut Courtois.
Atletico have particular reason to be tempted by both. Goalkeeper Courtois is in his third season on loan there, and his Chelsea future is still unclear.
Fernando Torres made his name at Atletico Madrid as their golden boy, before moving onto Liverpool in 2007.
He is currently coming into some excellent form, which may mean fans would have second thoughts about moving him on, but conversely Chelsea could strike while the iron is hot.
Costa is clearly an excellent player, but whether he is worth sacrificing two valuable assets for is another matter. If he can sustain this form through until January, then the chances of Chelsea making their interest serious will certainly increase.
Would you trade any of the pair to get Costa?
