He has been dubbed ‘the next Ronaldo’ - and we don’t mean the chubby goal-machine of Barcelona and Inter Milan past.
Alvaro Vadillo of Real Betis has physique, trickery and powerful shooting ability that has seen him compared to Portuguese sensation Cristiano Ronaldo - and he is certainly a player who demonstrates that sort of innate potential, at such a young age.
But Betis have made it clear that he is not for sale, with sporting director Vlada Stosic stating:
“We’re not listening to offers for Vadillo. We want to keep him unless someone comes and pays the clause, or a figure very close to his buyout clause, then he'll be staying.”
That is because Vadillo has a buy-out clause in his current contract with the club, standing at €20 million.
Therefore, as much as Betis protest his unavailability, the fact remains that if any interested party meets that valuation (approximately £17 million) - Betis have no choice but to sell.
For instance, despite his excellent potential he has not yet scored a senior goal, until now.
Vadillo was the hero as the La Liga side defeated their Iberian rivals Vitoria Guimares in the Europa League this evening - his goal proving the decider in a 1-0 victory.
And it really was a sublime goal, even if there was a definite hint of offside. He stormed down the left-hand flank, before lifting the ball into the far corner with his right foot to claim three points for the Seville outfit.
So now he finally has his first goal for the club he can hopefully push on and score on a more regular basis, just like the player he has been relentlessly compared to - and begin to justify that £17 million price-tag.
Here is the goal…
