This weekend's 10 must-read Premier League stats - Worry over non-scoring strikers

Chamakh 2

Stoke City, West Ham, Crystal Palace, Liverpool, Arsenal, Norwich, Newcastle and Sunderland feature.

0 – Stoke City are the only team for whom a striker has not scored a single goal in the Premier League this season. The Potters are the league’s lowest scorers with just 4 goals through 8 matches. Kenwyne Jones has appeared in 6 matches, totalling 349 minutes, failing to score from his 9 efforts on goal (3 on target, 4 off target, 2 blocked). Peter Crouch has made 5 appearances totalling 211 minutes, firing just 3 shots towards goal (1 on target, 1 off target, 1 blocked). Marko Arnautovic and Jonathan Walters are also both without a goal.

1 – West Ham have have conceded just 1 goal on their travels this season (losing 1-0 at Hull City), picking up 5 points from those four away games. Sam Allardyce’s side will be looking to bounce back from their 3-1 home thrashing at the hands of Manchester City when they travel to Swansea City on Sunday. The Swans ended their 8-game streak at home without a win last weekend when they thrashed bottom of the league Sunderland 4-0.

1 – Crystal Palace striker Marouane Chamakh has fired in just 1 shot in his 8 Premier League appearances this season, totalling 524 minutes. That sole shot was on target and beat Asmir Begović to give Palace a 1-0 lead. However, Stoke City ended up winning 2-1. How much more time will the Moroccan striker get whilst he continually fails to test goalkeepers? His team face his former club Arsenal this weekend.

2 – Only 2 of Liverpool’s 13 Premier League goals this season have come after half-time. The first of these was from Luis Suárez against Sunderland in matchday 6 and Daniel Sturridge last weekend in Liverpool’s 2-2 draw at 10-man Newcastle. Brendan Rodgers’ side host West Brom this weekend – they’ve conceded 4 of their total 6 goals in the second half of games this season.

4 – Olivier Giroud leads the Premier League in assists. The French striker has 4 assists this season, as well as 4 goals. Giroud set up goals for Jack Wilshere and Mesut Özil last weekend in Arsenal’s 4-1 victory over Norwich. Arsenal’s opponents this weekend Crystal Palace are averaging more than 2 goals against per game this season.

7 – Newcastle's Shola Ameobi has netted 7 of his total 41 Premier League goals against Sunderland. He has not scored more than 3 goals against any other side.

9 – Stoke City have lost to Manchester United more times than any other team in the Premier League. Their 1-1 draw at the Britannia Stadium in September 2011 was the only point the Potters have taken from the 10 fixtures against the Red Devils. David Moyes’ side could do with all 3 points on Saturday, having won only 1 of his 4 Premier League games at Old Trafford since replacing Sir Alex Ferguson. United are 2/2 in the Champions League at Old Trafford and will hoping to use the momentum of Wednesday’s 1-0 win over Real Sociedad to build on their slow start in the Premier League this season.

23 – Sunday’s Tyne-Wear derby will be the 23rd time Sunderland and Newcastle have met each other in the Premier League. The Magpies have won 9 of the previous 22 meetings, the Black Cats just 4. There have been 9 draws in these meetings. Sunderland were 3-0 winners at St James’ Park in April when these two sides last met in which was Paolo Di Canio’s second game in charge. It was also the first time Newcastle had failed to score in this fixture in the Premier League.

357 – Arsenal have picked up the most points from London derbies in the history of the Premier League (101 wins, 54 draws, 41 loses). Crystal Palace are at the bottom of the mini London league table with just 40 points from 44 Premier League London derbies. In the actual Premier League table, Arsenal are top and only Sunderland are keeping Palace off the bottom. Arsenal have won their last four London derbies since losing to Tottenham in March. They are 2/2 this season, winning 3-1 at Fulham and 1-0 at home to Tottenham.

526 – Ricky van Wolfswinkel has gone 526 minutes since scoring on his Norwich debut in a 2-2 draw at Everton on the opening day of the season. The club record £8.5m signing has not been getting in the right positions for his team mates to help him and has fired in just 2 shots on target from 12 attempts in his 7 starts. The Dutch striker was absent through injury last weekend which could lead way to Gary Hooper making only his second Premier League start for the Canaries following his summer arrival from Celtic.
