American International Oguchi Onyewu has signed up with Queens Park Rangers.
Harry Redknapp might have the best defensive record in the division but he hasn’t rested on his laurels. The former Tottenham manager has moved to snap up experienced centre half Oguchi Onyewu on a short term deal to hopefully win a more permanent contract in January.
He has been training with Harry Redknapp’s side since leaving Sporting Lisbon last season and looks to have done enough to impress.
The defender known globally for his stature and athleticism looks to be a great coup for the Championship side. He’ll no doubt, offer good competition to Richard Dunne and Nedum Onouha as they look to win the Championship title this season.
Oguchi Onyewu seemed delighted to have signed for QPR remarking:
‘’I’m thrilled to get this period over with and finally secure my future’’
‘’QPR are a club with huge ambitions to retrun to the Premier League and I wanted to be a part of it’’
Onyewu is no stranger to English football having been on loan to Newcastle in 2007 from Standard Liege. The American has played for some of the most recognised sides in Europe like Milan, Malaga and Lisbon.
He has 68 International caps under his belt and will undoubtedly look to use this opportunity to reinstate his international career just in time for the World Cup finals having missed out on the last squad.
QPR have built on what is an incredibly strong squad for this division, Burnley and Leicester continue to challenge them but the strength in depth QPR possess it’s almost impossible to see how they can let the league title slip through their hands, never mind promotion.
What do QPR fans think of their newest addition?
