Predicted Wigan XI to face Rubin Kazan – Grant Holt to start

Team news for the Europa League game at the DW Stadium on Thursday evening (8.05pm).

Striker Grant Holt is expected to make his European debut for Wigan Athletic when they take on Russian side Rubin Kazan in Group D of the Europa League.

Holt has been out with a knee injury but is fit enough to lead the line against the team two points clear at the top of the group.

He could take the place of winger James McLean who could be rested. McLean was sent off in the 1-0 Championship defeat to Blackpool on Saturday but his appeal was successful. He’s now available for their trip to Charlton on Sunday.

Another player who could return from injury is defender Stephen Crainey who has been out for the previous four games with a neck problem. He may have to settle for a place on the bench though.

Owen Coyle’s side have four points from their first two games and a win over the former Russian champions would see them top the group at the halfway stage.

Predicted Wigan line-up: Carson, Boyce, Barnett, Rogne, Perch, Gomez, Watson, McArthur, Powell, McManaman, Holt
