It is non-stop talking about the ghost goal. However it doesn’t get any better if Leverkusen continues to insist that the ghost goal from now on is a non issue.
In last week’s Bundesliga match the side of former Liverpool player Sami Hyypia scored the winning goal. But in fact the header went narrowly wide, only for the ball to somehow slip through a hole in the net and drop between the posts. No before the score was set it became clear that the ball was out. This led to some heated discussion in Germany.
So you might think that before this game the goal net will get an extra look by the referee.
In tonight’s Champions League clash against FC Shakhtar Donetsk almost one month away of second leg game against Manchester United FC – the Red Devils won the first one at home 4-2 – Leverkusen is keen to make a push towards the top of the table. If they record a win tonight they will come closer. Leverkusen only trails by one point behind Manchester United FC and FC Shakhtar Donetsk, both with four points.
Leverkusen should be hyped up but manager Sami Hyypia stepped on the brake. He said to German daily Bild: “I can not say that we played dominant recently. But the results were there.”
Hyypia and his side has to raise their level for FC Shakhtar Donetsk, who are piled up with talent. “We have to focus and play better,” Liverpool legend added. If it that easy, one might think, then let’s do it. However it won’t be that easy.
An interesting match ahead for both Manchester United opponents.
Bayer Leverkusen’s predicted line-up for tonight:
Leno / Donati, Toprak, Spahic, Can / Reinartz / Castro, Rolfes / Sam, Son / Kießling
