Reports suggest that La Liga royalty have had a change of hearts on an Emirates prince.
The ease in which Jack Wilshere finished off a team move high on total football against Norwich City at the weekend has not gone unnoticed in La Liga, as Barcelona are interested in raiding Arsenal for their midfield darling according to El Mundo Deportivo.
The Gunners have done business with the Catalan side before… from Thierry Henry to Alexander Hleb and, more recently, returning Francesc Fabregas, yet should Arsene Wenger ratify the sale of Wilshere, it would no doubt prove a more personal blow as the Englishman is an academy graduate.
It would also represent a shift in mentality from Barcelona who scoffed at the hype Wilshere was receiving when he first broke into Wenger's senior Gunners.
Two years ago, when current Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola was coaching at Camp Nou, he claimed that the then-19 year-old Wilshere was no different than the majority of players Barcelona have in their reserve, or second, team.
He was quoted by the Daily Mail to have said: 'He can be a great player for Arsenal and England. But we have many types of player like him in the second team. He's lucky, as Arsenal have time. There is not the pressure to win titles as quickly as possible. We have second-team players like him.'
Wilshere has a transfermarkt.co.uk value of £29m. Barcelona's three-man shortlist also allegedly includes Ilkay Gundogan of Borussia Dortmund and Koke of Atletico Madrid.
Should the El Mundo Deportivo report be taken with a pinch of salt? Could Wilshere hold his own in the current Barcelona team, or would he win more staying at Arsenal? Let us know in the comment section below…
