Former West Ham and Arsenal striker John Hartson argues Sir Alex Ferguson is wrong in his assessment of Steven Gerrard.
Sir Alex Ferguson was unlikely to say anything kind about Liverpool in his autobiography, but not many would have predicted he would choose to discredit the club's captain Steven Gerrard.
“I'm one of the few who felt Gerrard was not a top, top player," the extract released stated.
You can just imagine how Liverpool fans reacted to that comment.
Many have seen fit to criticise the Scotsman's assessment, one being former Welsh international John Hartson.
The former Arsenal and West Ham striker told BBC Radio 5 Live:
"For Sir Alex to say that I find it incredible... Steven Gerrard is the greatest midfielder has seen in the last 10 years."
Ouch. A double swipe at Sir Alex who no doubt shares Gary Neville's view that Paul Scholes is superior to the Liverpool man.
It looks like the weight of footballing opinion is going to go against Fergie on this one.
Ask any United fans if they would rather see Steven Gerrard in their midfield, or pretty much anyone they have played there since Roy Keane departed in 2005 and the answer will be a clear one.
What do you think of Fergie's assessment?
