Manchester United join race to sign bargain Napoli midfielder - report

Napoli

Manchester United are interested in signing Blerim Dzemaili, according to reports in his homeland.

Not satisfied with Marouane Fellaini? Is another midfielder needed? Do United just need new faces full stop?

Either one of those reasons could be applicable for the January transfer window, and the Red Devils are now being linked with signing a central midfielder from Napoli.

Blerim Dzemaili is the name, a Swiss international midfielder of 28 caps who plays for Serie A side Napoli.

A report in his homeland on Monday claims Manchester United are tracking the midfielder.

Infoticker.ch report: "Manchester United like 27-year-old midfielder Blerim Dzemaili. He has often had to make do with a substitute's role at Napoli. United coach David Moyes has liked him a long time."

Dzemaili has made six appearances in Serie A this season, with three of them starts. He has scored one goal and made one assist. His pass completion ratio stands at 88.2 per cent.

Last season he scored nine goals for Napoli and provided four assists, which included a hat-trick against Torino.

In August he featured for Ottmar Hitzfeld's Switzerland from the start in their surprise 1-0 friendly victory under Brazil.

Dzemaili is rated at around £8 million, and is considered more expendable by Napoli than the likes of Marek Hamsik. His contract runs out in 2015.

However there could be a sticking point for United. Napoli boss Rafa Benitez would surely want to resist doing business with the Red Devils, and is unlikely to be any fonder of former Merseyside foe David Moyes than he was Sir Alex Ferguson.
