Manchester City weekend round-up: Klopp reveals English snubs; Aguero targets Moscow win

All the news, views and transfer rumours from the Etihad this weekend…

Manchester City climbed to fourth in the Premier League table on Saturday following their 3-1 victory away to West Ham United.

With Southampton drawing at Old Trafford, the Blues leapfrogged them as two goals from Sergio Aguero and one from David Silva proved too much for a Hammers side whose consolation strike came from Ricardo Vaz Te.

The 3-1 victory was the culmination of an impressive performance from Manuel Pellegrini’s side, who would have been wary following West Ham’s outstanding victory at White Hart Lane prior to the international break.

Speaking after the match, Pellegrini told the BBC, “Winning the game was the most important thing for us. We played very well, and the best player for West Ham was their goalkeeper.”

The Blues now go into next week’s Champions League group match against CSKA Moscow in high spirits. And they can take confidence in the fact the Russians continued their poor form losing to league leaders Zenit.

Speaking of Europe’s elite competition, Aguero has told City TV that a victory on Wednesday is vital.

We won against West Ham away in the Premier League and now we have to win away in Moscow as well,” he said. “We have to continue.”

And finally, Jurgen Klopp has revealed that he turned down a number of English clubs – believed to include City – in order to continue his impressive work at Borussia Dortmund.

Speaking to the Sun, Klopp said, “There were some English clubs that called and wanted to speak to me. But there was no reason to talk to them because…no chance.

In life you have to be at the right place at the right moment. And I am at the right place at the right moment.”

Blues fans enjoying life under Pellegrini may not be too disappointed to hear that news.
