Chelsea were criticised this summer for loaning a plethora of players to the same team. Vitesse Arnhem have a vast array of Chelsea players currently plying their trade in the Eredivisie, due to the close relationship between the clubs respective chairmen.
Vitesse are looking to win the league this season, such is the quality of their team this season, and based on their fantastic campaign last term.
Yesterday they took on a team who are also considered an outfit who can also claim to be one of the outside shots for the Dutch title this season.
Heerenveen, managed by Dutch legend Marco Van Basten, are a difficult side to beat at home - especially with their star striker Alfred Finnbogason in top form.
He had a great game for the club yesterday, but it was not the end result Van Basten would have been looking for.
Heerenveen went 2-0 up in the game via goals from Finnbogason and Kenneth Otigba - but Vitesse came away with a 3-2 victory.
It was, predictably, Chelsea players who played a major role in their recovery.
First it was Lucas Piazon who hit the target. The Brazilian tucked away a half volley after good work from Japanese international Mike Havenaar, which gave Vitesse an in for the game.
And it was Piazon again who did the job to level the scoring after 72 minutes, this time swinging in a free-kick that nobody got on the end of to level the scoring.
But the Chelsea loanees were not done there.
In the final minute of the game, Piazon raced clear but couldn’t find a way through to goal so laid the ball off to left-back Patrick van Aanholt - who fired an excellent strike from 25 yards to give Vitesse a 3-2 lead, which remained the score at the final whistle.
