Manchester United were left to rue the departure of Paul Pogba last summer when the talented Frenchman went on to become an instant star at Juventus - and is now a regular in the French national team.
Sir Alex Ferguson never managed to convince Pogba that his future was at Old Trafford, instead it appears that Pogba resented the fact he got so little playing time at the club, despite considering himself good enough to play in the Premier League.
He left for Juventus, and he left for absolutely nothing - and there was a fear that the same could happen with United’s latest new star.
Run the rule he has, and impressed he was.
Januzaj was superb in pre-season, and then demonstrated his class in cameos at the start of this campaign.
But it was the performance against Sunderland that truly convinced everyone, including national teams from here to Turkey, that this boy was something a little bit special.
And now, David Moyes and Ed Woodward have convinced the teenager to sign a new five-year-deal at Old Trafford - keeping him tied to the club until 2018.
Januzaj was linked with joining Pogba at Juventus next term, with Juve practically admitting interest and the Belgian-Albanian’s close friendship with Pogba warning lights for United.
But he will now stay with the club, telling the official website:
"It’s a great thrill to be able to sign for Manchester United. Since arriving here I have always felt like this was the right club for me … it’s like a dream. I want to work hard now and establish myself as a Manchester United player."
Moyes says he was ‘delighted’ that the player had decided to stay with the club.
Januzaj is now expected to start against Southampton later today and he will be glowing at the thought that Old Trafford will be his home until 2018.
How good can Januzaj become for Manchester United?
