Hansen compares Ramsey to Zidane, Twitter erupts

Arsenal bossed Norwich City in a 4-1 victory on Saturday but a MOTD comment provoked the best of social media…

Emerging superstar midfielder Aaron Ramsey started Arsenal's match on Saturday against Norwich City on the bench, but the 22-year-old made a sensational impact after being introduced to the Premier League tie on the 37 minute mark, replacing the concussed Mathieu Flamini.

His contributions were singled out on BBC's popular highlights show Match of the Day. His one-touch cut-back toward the game's conclusion allowed the club's record-breaking transfer Mesut Ozil to score his second of the fixture, putting the Gunners into a 4-1 lead and punctuated a performance from Ramsey that also included various skills, superb footwork, feints, turns and was capped off with a six-yard goal after merking a number of Norwich City's defenders.

Alan Hansen even declared on the show: 'This was like [Zinedine] Zidane'.

Indeed, Ramsey's form this season has elevated him into one of the division's best and - thus far - most consistent performers.

In eight matches and 652 Premier League minutes, Ramsey has completed 87% of his 556 total passes, wins 83% of his 40 tackles, has intercepted 11 times, blocked three times and cleared the ball on five occasions. There is no doubt, though, that it is his attacking prowess that has football writers dedicating much of their time to his craft. Ramsey has scored five, assisted thrice and created 11 chances.

That's one goal scored or created once every 81 minutes and one chance created every 59 minutes. Oh, he scored four in Europe, too.

The comparison has already trended on Twitter, with many outraged at the suggestion that the still-developing Ramsey could be likened to a three-time World Player of the Year, a former Champions League winner, World Cup winner and European Championship winner in Zidane.
