The last time Manchester United played a Premier League match, Adnan Januzaj announced himself to the wider footballing world with a brace of the highest quality.
Following the news this morning that the Belgian winger has signed a new five-year deal with the champions, David Moyes may feel he has already secured his first victory of the weekend. And he will be hoping his second comes this afternoon against Southampton.
At the start of the season, few would have suspected the two clubs would go into this match in their current league positions; while United sit ninth in the league, the Saints occupy the final Champions League place.
A win for Southampton could send them top; but that would take a hat-trick of shocks elsewhere. While a victory for Moyes’ side will push them closer to the title-chasing pack.
United’s recent record against the Saints is impressive, as they have won their last eight matches in all competitions. In contrast, Southampton’s last league win at Old Trafford was in 1988.
What do you think the result will be this afternoon?
