Lamela concern over Tottenham role ahead of World Cup; Dawkins could leave before the weekend

A round up of the key news stories about Tottenham Hotspur this morning.

Spurs forward Erik Lamela is already voicing concerns over his first team role at White Hart Lane ahead of the World Cup next year.

The attacking player only joined the club from Roma over the summer but has struggled to force his way into Andre Villas-Boas’ plans ahead of the World Cup next summer.

"The national coach called on me when I was in Rome but now I’m playing in England and I have to adapt quickly - To keep my place in the national squad I have to make an impression for my club," he told the Metro.

Tottenham defender Kyle Walker is urging his side to be wary of Aston Villa this weekend.

Walker insists Villa are a better side than the one which has performed in recent meetings between the two clubs.

“I think Villa will be up for it, because each time we’ve gone up there recently we’ve played them off the park. Obviously they’ve got quality with Gabby [Agbonlahor] coming back and everything, so I think it will be a good game,” said the right-back.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Simon Dawkins could sign for Derby County before the weekend.

The versatile forward and attacking midfielder has been on trial with the Championship side, as Steve McClaren ponders over whether to offer him a deal.

“I know Simon very well. I very nearly took him to Holland with me when I was at FC Twente and he was at Queen’s Park Rangers for a couple of weeks when I was there. I know what he can do,” said the Derby boss.
