David Moyes set to hand chance to back up Manchester United goalkeeper

Manchester United boss David Moyes has hinted he's ready to give Anders Lindegaard a chance in the first team.

Manchester United manager David Moyes is set to hand an olive branch to goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard as well as youngsters Sam Johnstone and Ben Amos.

The Dane has not made a first team appearance for the Premier League champions this season but David Moyes offered him some words of hope in his press conference ahead of the Premier League clash against Southampton tomorrow.

“I have faith in De Gea but I want to use Lindegaard and we’ve got Sam (Johnstone) and Ben (Amos) coming through as well,” said the United boss.

David De Gea is the undisputed number one at Old Trafford at the moment, having eradicated many of the weaknesses which plagued his game when he first came into English football.

The Spaniard has proven to be effective in a variety of high pressure match situations for United so it’s difficult to see where the rest of the goalkeepers in the squad are going to get their chances.

United have home matches against Real Sociedad in the Champions League and Stoke City in the Premier League before a home tie in the League Cup against Norwich City, following tomorrow's match against Southampton.

That match against Norwich is likely to be the clash where another goalkeeper gets a chance and it’s then down to that individual to force their way into Moyes’ first team plans on a more regular basis.

It would be a bizarre decision for Moyes to drop De Gea for no good reason, especially with the Premier League champions already playing catch up as they look to defend their title.

Do you think De Gea will be benched tomorrow?
