Montpellier boss Jean Fernandez has stated that Remy Cabella can move to Old Trafford if the English champions meet his asking price.
Manchester United have been given some encouraging news ahead of the January transfer window, with reported target Remy Cabella available for purchase.
The Old Trafford outfit failed in attempts to bring a creative midfielder to the club over the summer, and it is believed that remedying this will be David Moyes’ number one priority in the new year.
The Premier League champions have been linked with an interest in Cabella, who has starred for the Ligue 1 side so far this term.
In his first eight games for the club this season, the 23-year-old has scored five times and created four goals for team-mates.
Outspoken Montpellier president Louis Nicollin once said it would take ‘at least £100million’ to convince them to sell, but manager Jean Fernandez has admitted that a more moderate fee could convince the side to part company with the star.
"He is an intelligent boy who has made a good start to the season," Fernandez said.
"Now in the winter transfer window if Manchester United offers €18million, as I see it, he must go.
"Even if you 'kill the team', you can't refuse."
Fernandez went on to admit that he is keen for Cabella to improve even further at the Stade de la Mosson, and blossom into playing regularly behind a main striker.
"We must see if he is able to assume the responsibilities," Fernandez added.
"If he is able to play as a number ten, these are the matches that will decide."
United have a number of other reported targets to fill the creative gap left by the retirement of Paul Scholes, including Koke and Ander Herrera.
Cabella’s versatility may well be a key asset to United and a reason that Moyes is potentially interested in bringing him to Old Trafford. With Wayne Rooney assuming the number ten role and most of the side’s wingers failing to live up to expectations, a creative force from wide could be a real bonus.
The former France under-21 international has been likened to Zinedine Zidane in the past due to his poise on the ball, balance and vision, and looks set for a move to a bigger club sooner rather than later.
