Arsenal latest: AGM 'controlled', Usmanov stake, €500m club and Ozil splits from dad

All the latest news and gossip from the past 24 hours at The Emirates.

Arsenal shareholder Alisher Usmanov has increased his stake in the club. It was announced yesterday, but got lost among the AGM news that was doing the rounds. His company red and White Securities Limited, jointly owned with Farhad Moshiri, now holds a stake of over 30 per cent in the Arsenal holdings plc.

Usually this would require a formal takeover bid however Stan Kroenke is already the majority shareholder, so that is not a requirement on this occasion.

Usmanov has criticised Kroenke’s ownership of the club in the past.

A little recap of the AGM now, as some supports groups feel their concerns were ignored at the meeting.

A spokesman for the Arsenal Supporters Trust stated:

"Clearly, appearing at a statutory AGM is not fulfilling a commitment to meet formally and informally with supporters. It was a very sanitised and controlled meeting. The AGM as a forum to engage with supporters has been watered down."

Arsenal’s finances have been praised once again. In an audit of all 237 clubs competing in UEFA competition this season Arsenal have been valued the highest in terms of assets. They beat off the likes of Manchester United, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich with assets valued at over €500 million.

Mesut Ozil has announced that his father will no longer be representing him as an agent. Ozil’s father, who was at the centre of a storm with Real Madrid after his departure from La Liga, will no longer represent the player as his ‘environment has changed’ and he is no longer the best person to act on his part. His brother will now assume the role.

Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker has been speaking about the rest of the season - and how important the gelling of the squad has been in their current, and future success:

"We have a few blocs. We have a French bloc, a Spanish bloc, a British bloc and a German bloc, so we are international-influenced and that is what Arsenal is all about. It's now about sticking together as good as possible and as much as possible. Arsenal wants to play international football and, when every player fits into that game, we can be successful.’’
