Arsenal’s interest in the services of Barcelona right-back Martin Montoya has mutual friends. Liverpool are said to be after the young Spaniard, and are all set to offer him a pre-contract agreement.

His contract expires at the end of the season and he is said to have become bored of waiting for first-team football.

Arsenal reportedly saw him as a potential replacement for Bacary Sagna, who is also set to let his contract expire next summer.

But Montoya also has German interest in his services. Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich are both set to give him an opportunity to continue his career in the Bundesliga.

Montoya is not the only Spanish based player Arsenal and Liverpool are set to battle for. According to Turkish reports both clubs are still interested in Atletico Madrid playmaker Arda Turan.

The Turkish international has been in great form for Los Colchoneros, but he recently signed a new deal in Madrid - which was supposed to put an end to interest in his services.

However, it appears that both Premier League clubs are ready to continue in their interest regardless.

Thomas Vermaelen’s agent has distanced his client from exit rumours. The central defender has been struggling for first-team action - after losing his first-team place amid injury turmoil it was reported last week that he was potentially looking for a January move, with Napoli and Juventus interested.

However, speaking to Italian radio, his agent Alex Kroes stated:

“We do not want to take part in this game. I want to distance myself from, and deny, these rumours. I deny absolutely everything.”

Norwich City boss Chris Hughton believes his Norwich side can cause an upset against Arsenal this weekend, and suggests that his side must not be overawed by the visit to the table-toppers:

"What you can’t do is you can’t go to the Emirates with any type of fear. You’ve got to go there to do your best to get something out of the game, and it’s a good opportunity for us to do that.’’
