All the latest news, views and transfer rumours from the Etihad…
Images of the planned expansion of the Etihad Stadium have been released, detailing how the capacity of Manchester City's home will increase from 47,800 to approximately 61,000. The inclusion of new tiers on the North and South stands would make the Etihad the third largest football stadium in England, behind only Manchester United's Old Trafford and the home of the national team, Wembley.
The Manchester Evening News released the images this morning, and fans are generally delighted that City are taking the next step as they look to cement their position as not only one of the top clubs in the country, but also in Europe and eventually the world, as owner Sheikh Mansour continues to splash the cash.
Meanwhile, reported transfer target Stephan El Shaarawy looks set to stay with Milan, disappointing City and a host of other clubs in the process. The highly rated 20 year old has impressed with the San Siro side since his move from Genoa in 2011, and had attracted the interest of Barcelona, Napoli and Tottenham Hotspur, to name but a few.
However, the Italian international has declared he will be staying put, saying, ““The club always believed in me. I’m happy to stay at Milan and I will remain at Milan.”
City have already purchased a number of attacking players in recent months, with Jesus Navas, Alvaro Negredo and Stevan Jovetic all now on board for Manuel Pellegrini's side, and whilst a fantastic player, El Shaarawy would be luxury at the Etihad, and would be best served committing to Milan – for now.
And finally, some good news for Swedish striker John Guidetti, who returned to training with the first team after a staggering 18 months out with injury and illness. The 21 year old impress in the 2011-12 season for Feyenoord, where he scored 20 goals in just 23 games, and now appears to be heading back to fitness. Whether he becomes a contributor at City or is loaned out again remains to be seen, but his goalscoring exploits in Holland showed his vast potential.
