Also Townsend on Hodgson, Kyle Walker and Lewis Holtby ahead of the trip to Aston Villa
Tottenham could be about to offer summer signing Paulhino a new contract according to reports in Brazil.
The midfielder was offered a four year contract when he signed for £17m in the summer, and reports indicate they are prepared to offer him an extra year to fight off any interest from La Liga giants Real Madrid.
Andros Townsend has described the furore surrounding comments made by England manager Roy Hodgson as ‘not news worthy’ on twitter after it emerged Hodgson told a joke during the half-time team talk at Wembley during England’s 2-0 over Poland.
Defender Kyle Walker is expecting Aston Villa to be up for their clash with Spurs at the weekend. Spurs have won 4-0 on each of their last two visits to Villa Park, but right-back Walker has told the Tottenham website he is expecting a difficult game against Villa.
He said: ‘I think Villa will be up for it because each time we’ve gone up there recently we’ve played them off the park.
‘Obviously they’ve got quality with Gabby [Agbonlahor] coming back and everything, so I think it will be a good game and we just need to stay focused and keep doing what we’ve been doing.’
Lewis Holtby believes that with many members of the team enjoying positive results for the countries over the international break will have given the chance for some players to regroup – and that they are looking forward to putting the result against West Ham behind them.
Holtby told the Spurs website: ‘They [members of the Belgium and England squads] achieved a ticket to the World Cup, and a lot of other players won with their countries, so for everyone the confidence is very important.
‘I think we’re up for it. Especially everyone who played against West Ham is definitely looking to come back from the result we had. We must keep it out of our minds, and try to get a win.’
