The transition of Cristiano Ronaldo at Manchester United… from a youthful, slight-framed teenager when he joined the Old Trafford outfit, to a strong, well-built and finely-balanced footballer when he left, is largely down to the athletic nurturing of former manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
Despite leaving United in 2009 and joining Real Madrid, Ronaldo has retained his prime physique while enhancing his ability and goal-scoring credentials, the former of which was not lost on one of the most famous professional body-builders of all time; Arnold Schwarzenegger, a 66-year-old Austrian who was on a promotional tour of Madrid this week.
'He has a fantastic physique and great abs,' the seven-time Mr Olympia winner and star of The Expendables, is quoted by Marca to have said, before adding: 'He's in amazing shape. That's why he's such a great footballer.
'I don't think he's interested in competing in Mr Olympia. Ronaldo wants to be the best player in the world and what I wanted was to win the Mr Olympia title. They're two very different sports.'
Despite his eight year involvement in Californian politics and his 35-year career in the film industry, Schwarzenegger remains firmly interested in sport and his admiration of Ronaldo is not the first time he has spoken out over an sportsman's aesthetics.
Earlier this year, lineal heavyweight boxing king Wladimir Klitschko posted a picture of himself mimicking a muscle man pose adopted by Schwarzenegger on social media.
It did not take long for Arnie himself to respond in kind in what became known as a Twitter pose-down.
