When it comes to dream centre backs for Manchester United, Mats Hummels should top the list.
The Express claimed earlier this year the Red Devils were hopeful of landing the Borussia Dortmund defender, but any advances were not encouraged. Arsenal had also been linked with the German international.
Now it appears Hummels is on the move, with Barcelona his destination.
German newspaper Bild report that a deal is close to being agreed for €35 million between the two clubs next summer.
Barcelona were searching for a centre-back all summer, and the potential signing of Hummels is being touted as Carles Puyol's replacement.
The report claims Dortmund are set to sign FC Basel defender Fabian Schar as a replacement, for just €5 million.
Sporting director of Dortmund Michael Zorc has denied officially a deal has been done, but Bild appear confident of their exclusive, as they did with the Mario Gotze deal in the summer.
If it goes through, it's a double blow for Manchester United as it means their potential signing of Dortmund's other first choice centre-back Neven Subotic is more unlikely.
It would also make you wonder about their resolve to hang onto Ilkay Gundogan. Dortmund have shown they are a selling club.
With Lewandowski off at the end of the season too, how much selling of key players the fans will stand for will become a real balancing act for last season's Champions League finalists.
It once again goes to show United talk the talk about having the funds to sign the very best, but when it comes to actually doing it, they are left watching.
Would Hummels have been the perfect Vidic or Ferdinand replacement? Will he succeed at Barcelona?
