Manchester City latest: Huge double injury boost and Toure finds unlikely support

All the latest news, views and transfer rumours from the Etihad…

Manchester City could be about to receive a huge defensive boost, with Vincent Kompany reportedly set to return from injury far sooner than first expected.

The Blues skipper missed Belgium’s World Cup qualifying double-header with a thigh injury. But the Express is one of a number of media outlets reporting Kompany could return either for the weekend match against West Ham United, or next week’s Champions League group match against CSKA Moscow.

And it is not just one City centre-back on the mend, with the same newspaper reporting that summer signing Martin Demichelis is stepping up his preparation for a first senior start.

The Argentinian has been named in the Blues’ EDS squad for tonight’s match against Rochdale, and if all goes well, he could soon be pushing for a starting birth alongside the likes of Kompany.

And finally, the Daily Mail reports that Yaya Toure and his brother Kolo have received some unlikely support from a group of Newcastle students.

Out celebrating England’s qualification for the World Cup, a lone Chelsea fan began a rendition of the Toure chant and others soon joined in…for the next ten minutes.

Yaya Toure later tweeted his appreciation after the video was posted on YouTube.
