Forward Erik Lamela has said to an Argentine newspaper that he must adapt his game to the more physical style of the Premier League after moving from Serie A club Roma. Lamela has yet to start a Premier League game for Spurs and said: ‘English football is a lot more physical. It is not like the tactical game they play in Italy.
‘I have talked a lot with my team-mates and I know I have to adapt quickly if I am to keep my place in the national team ahead of the World Cup.’
Right-back Kyle Walker has given his Spurs and England team-mate Andros Townsend some advice ahead of England’s clash tonight with Poland. Townsend played a big role in England’s 4-1 win over Montenegro, a game where he picked up a knock but he is expected to be fit enough to keep his place tonight.
Walker told the Tottenham website: ‘I think my mate Andros has just got to do what he kept doing the other day. He’s on fire at the minute and hopefully he comes with another goal.’
Midfielder Mousa Dembele has described the prospect of representing Belgium at the World Cup in Brazil next summer as ‘an unbelievable feeling.’ He, along with Spurs team-mates Jan Vertonghen and Nacer Chadli were part of the side that won 2-1 in Croatia to secure their first qualification for the World Cup finals since 2002 in Japan and South Korea.
He told the Tottenham website: ‘It wasn’t an easy job to win in Croatia, that’s why the win was extra special.
‘We were all very happy. It feels very good to qualify. Everyone knows we have a lot of quality in the squad and expected us to make it to the finals.’
Elsewhere on international duty, midfielder Paulinho played in Brazil’s 2-0 win over Zambia in a friendly in Beijing.
