Everton injury blow as Darron Gibson is stretchered off for Ireland

Former Manchester United midfielder Darron Gibson has been injured for Ireland and is already looking likely to miss match action for Everton.

News Everton fans did not want to hear, one of their players has suffered a potentially serious injury on international duty.

Republic of Ireland midfielder Darron Gibson was taken off in the 37th minute against Kazakstan, Glenn Whelan coming on in his place.

Gibson landed awkwardly, appearing to injury his knee, being stretchered off the field.

The extent of the damage is not yet known, and is not likely to be until he returns to Everton's medical staff later this week to undergo a scan.

Gibson missed the first six games of the season with a knee injury, and had only just returned to action, playing two matches for the Toffees, and the internationals should have been important in getting him up to match fitness. Unfortunately it appears to have had the opposite effect.

What does this mean for Everton?
