Confirmed - England line-up v Poland: Walker, Lampard out and Smalling, Carrick in

Here is the side Roy Hodgson has chosen to go with in the World Cup qualifier against Poland this evening, kick-off at 20:00 GMT.

Starting Team: Hart, Smalling, Cahill, Jagielka, Baines, Townsend, Carrick, Gerrard, Welbeck, Rooney, Sturridge.

Subs: Jones, Ruddy, Gibbs, Wilshere, Lampard, Milner, Barkley, Defoe, Sterling, Lambert, Forster.

England go into the game needing a win to be sure of qualifying for the World Cup next summer automatically. Roy Hodgson’s men will be full of confidence following a comprehensive 4-1 win against Montenegro last Friday.

Kyle Walker picked up a suspension in that game, which has created an opportunity for Chris Smalling to come into the back four, edging out his Manchester United teammate Phil Jones who was also in contention to start.

The only other change sees Michael Carrick come into the side at the expense of Frank Lampard to partner Steven Gerrard in the middle. Carrick will be fresh after only a brief appearance last Friday.

The most talked about winger in England, Andros Townsend, keeps his place after shaking off a slight knock in that win against Montenegro.
