A round up of the latest news and gossip about Liverpool from the past 24 hours.
“I am enjoying myself very much at Swansea. It's a modest team but we are competing in Europe and we already won a title last season, the first in the club's history,” he told Marca.
“I'd never say never about our chances of winning the Premier League title, but if I'm being honest, that's not the aim. The aim is for a top-four place,” Gerrard told the Liverpool website.
The Metro has reported that Real Madrid are looking to push Karim Benzema towards the exit door to fund a move for Liverpool forward Luis Suarez. Suarez has been strongly linked with Real Madrid despite comments from Brendan Rodgers and Ian Ayre that the player is set for a full season at Anfield.
One player with a more realistic chance of leaving the club is defender Tiago Ilori. Reports from Spain have suggested that Liverpool’s new signing is a loan target for Spanish side Valencia, which means he could move away from Anfield just six weeks after joining from Sporting Lisbon.
Ilori has spoke of his role in Liverpool colours suggesting he’s less aggressive but quicker than Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher.
“I admired him as a player - We’re different but I respect him enormously for what he’s done for Liverpool - I can be aggressive when I need to be but that’s not the main part of my game. I think I’m relatively quick. I like to come out with the ball,” he told the club’s official magazine.
In another transfer story, Liverpool are thought to be one of three clubs keeping an eye on PSG midfielder Javier Pastore. Liverpool will face competition from Arsenal and Chelsea if they want to move for the 24-year-old and could be forced to pay upwards of £30 million to do the deal.
Another player Liverpool will have to fight for this January is Jorginho. Liverpool tried to sign the 21-year-old from Hellas Verona for £8 million over the summer but Tutto Mercato claims Arsenal have already started laying the groundwork for a January transfer.
Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen has revealed he’s close to full fitness and ready to start his season with the club. Allen has been out of action since the League Cup tie against Notts County where he picked up a troublesome hamstring problem.
In a more bizarre story, former Manchester United striker Teddy Sheringham has suggested that Steven Gerrard would be better deployed at right-back for England tomorrow night against Poland. He suggests that Gerrard playing that role would mean guaranteed delivery from the right hand side.
