The midfielder believes the Whites can turn their current form around
The Whites face Birmingham City at Elland Road next Sunday and while the players have benefitted from the additional break afforded by the international football schedule, a home win remains essential.
Brian McDermott has been busy with the squad for much of the past week as the team looks to turnaround their recent form and while Leeds are currently languishing in 14th place, they remain just six points off the playoffs.
That enough to make Tonge optimistic about the club’s prospects this term, with the former Sheffield United man telling the Yorkshire Evening Post that “the top six is a target”.
“If you have a good week in the Championship and win three games, you’re right in amongst the play-offs,” he said
“We’re looking at it in a positive way and we just want to get back to putting some good performances in. Results will come after that.”
Leeds are meanwhile continuing to pursue a variety of new forward options, as the club looks to improve on it’s recent poor showing in front of goal, with the Whites registering just five goals in their last seven Championship games.
Davide Somma is one potential option, with the recently released forward open to an Elland Road return, though question marks still remain with regards to his fitness.
Manchester United youngster Will Keane has also be linked with a loan move to the Championship, having made just one league appearance for the Red Devils in four years with the club.
One man unlikely to make a move to Yorkshire is Luciano Becchio, with parent club Norwich City rebuffing McDermott’s enquiries about the player.
