Reports in Spain and Portugal claim Tiago Ilori is a loan target for Valencia when the January transfer window opens

Portuguese newspaper Record has followed up on initial reports in Spain from Super Deporte claiming Liverpool’s Tiago Ilori is a January loan target for Valencia.

The 20-year-old only arrived at Anfield in September, but the reports claim the Spanish side will attempt to temporarily sign a player they had tried to get permanently prior to his switch to the Reds.

With Adil Rami soon to leave Valencia, the La Liga side will be searching for new defensive options, and the former Sporting Lisbon man appears to be high on their list.

Only last month, Ilori spoke of his hopes of breaking into the Liverpool first-team in quotes published by Sky Sports.

I want to get as many minutes as I can,” he said. “I’m enjoying it here. Brendan Rodgers seems like a great guy and a great coach. I will do my best for the club.”

And yet given that Liverpool are now out of the League Cup – and Ilori has the likes of Mamadou Sakho, Kolo Toure, Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel ahead of him – a brief spell away could be best for all parties.
