Winger to be offered improved deal as he is praised by Chelsea and United men

A select round-up of morning news relating to Tottenham Hotspur

On Friday evening Andros Townsend showed the world what Tottenham fans had known for some time – he is a very special talent. And now it appears he will be offered a new contract that reflects that.

The Mirror reports that Spurs are in talks with the player to increase his salary to around £2million-a-year.

The paper reports that Townsend currently earns £10,000-a-week courtesy of the deal he signed two years ago. But that five-year-contract is set to be revised in light of his recent progression.

Following his outstanding debut for England, Townsend is still the media darling, with most of this morning’s Spurs-related stories being about the 22-year-old.

The same newspaper runs quotes from Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard, praising Townsend’s performance and explaining that it gives hope to other young players hoping to break into the national team.

It was massive for us to see Andros do so well,” Lingard said. “It is good to know the opportunities are there and that Roy Hodgson likes young players.”

Currently on loan at Birmingham City, Lingard will be hoping to follow a similar route to Townsend, who has previously enjoyed loan spells in a bid to improve his game.

And finally, Gary Cahill has also had his say on the Spurs youngster.

In quotes published by the Express, the Chelsea man said, “Andros was the difference. I thought he was phenomenal down the wing. Every time he got the ball he was positive.”
