All the news, views and transfer rumours from Anfield this weekend…
The Mirror reported earlier today that the striker will be allowed to leave when the transfer window reopens, should a sufficient offer arrive.
The report goes on to claim that Arsenal will almost certainly return with a bid in the region of £50million, and that Suarez has already confided to friends that he sees his time at Anfield coming to an end.
The report concludes with the claim that the Reds are already openly seeking a replacement for the Uruguayan, should he get his apparent wish and leave after Christmas.
However, BT Sport has since run a story of its own – that Liverpool have no intention of selling Suarez this season.
They claim an Anfield source has refuted the Mirror’s story, stating the following:
“What happens next largely depends on the club and the player sitting down to discuss his future in the summer when he has two years remaining on his contract, and it is traditional at that stage for clubs and players to want to renegotiate contracts.
“We shall all see how it unfolds in the summer when those talks take place.”
So there you have it: Suarez will still be a Liverpool player next summer…provided the source is a reliable one.
In other news, former England international Teddy Sheringham has suggested Steven Gerrard may be the answer to Roy Hodgson’s problems at right-back following Kyle Walker’s suspension.
Speaking to Talk Sport, the ex-Tottenham and Manchester United man said, “We’ve got great delivery from the left in Baines and with Gerrard (on the right) it might release Wilshere or Carrick to play, then you’ve got someone threading a lovely ball through from that position as well.”
