Manchester United winger linked with £12.5m move; Championship wonder-kid on radar

He may have been one of the few Manchester United wingers to impress – if only sporadically – so far this season, but that has not stopped Antonio Valencia from being linked with a move away from Old Trafford.

The Express has picked up on reports from Turkey that claim new Galatasaray coach Roberto Mancini is considering a £12.5million bid for the Ecuadorian in January. The story initially came from Turkish newspaper Fanatik, and the emergence of Adnan Januzaj is given as one reason why the winger may be on the move.

Given that the two players are likely to play on opposite flanks, that is not evidence in itself. But why let a fact get in the way of a good story?

Surely if any winger is to make way in January it will be Ashley Young. But with Nani only recently signing a new five-year deal, the presence of Januzaj and Wilfried Zaha may well challenge Valencia’s place in the future. Only time will tell…

In other news, United defender Michael Keane scored the opening goal in England under-21’s 4-0 victory over San Marino last night.

Tottenham’s Harry Kane scored the other three goals to send Gareth Southgate’s men up to second in their European Championship qualifying group.

And finally, the Independent is the latest newspaper to run a story on Will Hughes potential move to Old Trafford. Liverpool may be front-runners in many people’s eyes, but the paper claims David Moyes will consider the 18-year-old as a potential solution to his midfield problems.

Although given Hughes’ age and experience to date, it is likely to be a long-term fix rather than a short-term solution…
