Martin Kelly is the latest Liverpool player to speak highly of the centre-half…
Kolo Toure seems to be the ‘larger than life’ character at Liverpool this season. After arriving at Anfield from Manchester City on a free transfer during the summer, he is making an invaluable contribution both on and off the field.
His antics on the pitch have made him an instant hit. As well as producing some impressive performances, including handling the big target men of Peter Crouch and Kenwyne Jones on the opening day of the Premier League season against Stoke, he has been the man that hasn’t been afraid to express his emotions off of it.
Infuriated when Liverpool concede a penalty or a goal to jubilation when the side scores, Toure seems to be the fan playing – it is little wonder there are supporters out there who want to adorn their Twitter and Facebook profile with pictures of the Ivorian.
But the effect he seems to be having on his teammates is telling. He seems quite keen to talk up the playing staff a great deal, boost their self-esteem as well giving them advice as Martin Kelly revealed in an interview with Liverpool’s club website.
Kelly told them: ‘He’s come in as a big character for the club and helped a lot around the dressing room. Whether he’s on your team or not in training, he’s giving advice to everyone and you like that as a defender. You like feeling as though you’re a full team.’
If this advice translates into a more solid defence on the pitch then this free transfer is looking like even better business with each passing day.
